TRANS EPI LASIK

TRANS EPI-LASIK (also PRK or EPI-LASIK) is usually recommended for patients to whom LASIK or SMILE correction isn't suitable due to too thin cornea.

The surgery is performed in two stages – at the beginning of the procedure, the corneal epithelium is removed mechanically. Then the excimer laser changes the shape of the cornea that provides the required vision correction.

STEP 1.

Preparation of the corneal surface

STEP 2.

Removal of the corneal surface

STEP 3.

Corneal reshaping with an excimer laser

STEP 4.

Protective contact lens application

After vision correction applying the PRK method, the recovery period is prolonged. There is some discomfort about one week while the corneal epithelial cells grow onto the cornea. Appropriate protective contact lenses should be worn for faster epithelial regeneration. Complete vision stabilization takes a few months.
